Islam, M. A., Sathi, N. J., Abdullah, H. M., & Tabassum, T. (2022). ''International Journal of Clinical Practice,'' 2022, 6700688.''' <blockquote>''Background''. The most prominent form of cancer in women is breast cancer, and modifiable lifestyle risk factors, including smoking, alcohol consumption, and induced abortion, can all contribute significantly to this disease. ''Objectives''. This study’s primary purpose was to assess the prevalence of breast cancer among women in developed and developing countries and the association between three modifiable hazard factors (induced abortion, smoking behavior, and alcohol use) and breast cancer. ''Methods''. This study performed a systematic literature database review up to September 21, 2021. We employed meta-analytic tools such as the random effects model, forest plot, and subgroup analysis to conduct the research. Additionally, we conducted a sensitivity analysis to assess the influence of outliers. ''Results''. According to the random effects model, smoker women have a higher risk of developing breast cancer from different countries (OR = 1.46; 95% CI: 1.08–1.97). In the case of induced abortion, the pooled estimate (OR = 1.25; 95% CI: 1.01–1.53) indicated a significant link between abortion and breast cancer. Subgroup analysis revealed that smoking substantially influences breast cancer in developing and developed countries. Breast cancer was more common among women who smoked in developed countries than in developing nations. ''Conclusion''. The observed findings give sufficient support for the hypothesis that smoking and abortion have a significant influence on breast cancer in different nations. Health organizations should individually design comprehensive scientific plans to raise awareness about the risks of abortion and smoking in developed and developing countries</ins>.</blockquote>'''[https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6445797/ Induced Abortion, Birth Control Methods, and Breast Cancer Risk: A Case-Control Study in China.] Yuan X, Yi F, Hou C, Lee H, Zhong X, Tao P, Li H, Xu Z, Li J. Compared to people without any history of IA, an increased risk of breast cancer was observed among females who had at least one IA (OR = 1.44, 95 % CI 1.29–1.59, I 2 = 82.6 %, p < 0.001, n = 34). No significant publication bias was found among the included studies (Egger test, p = 0.176). The risk increased to 1.76 (95 % CI 1.39–2.22) and 1.89 (95 % CI 1.40–2.55) for people who had at least two IAs and at least three IAs, respectively. Subgroup analyses showed similar results to the primary results. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit detailed information. Unconditional logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The results have revealed that induced abortion was related to increased risk of breast caner. Premenopausal women who had ${\geq}3$ times of induced abortion were at increased crude OR (2.41, 95%CI: 1.09-5.42) and adjusted-OR (1.55, 95%CI: 1.15-5.68). Postmenopausal women with a previous induced abortion were at increased crude OR (2.04, 95%CI: 1.48-2.81) and adjusted-OR (1.82, 95%CI: 1.30-2.54), and there was a significant increase trend in OR with number of induced abortions (p for trend: 0.0001). Overall, spontaneous abortion did not significantly alter the risk of breast cancer, but postmenopausal women who had history of spontaneous abortion were at increased OR. These results suggested that relationship between breast cancer and abortions may depend on menopausal status and induced abortion may played an important role in the development of breast cancer in Jiangsu' women of China</ins>.</blockquote>[http://bcpinstitute.org/epidemiology_studies_bcpi.htm Epidemiologic Studies: Induced Abortion and Breast Cancer Risk]

The association between genetic and life-style factors and breast cancer was examined using logistic regression models. Using AUC curves, we also compared the performance of the logistic model to machine learning models, namely LASSO regression model and support vector machine (SVM), and the scores calculated from CKB, Gail and Tyrer–Cuzick models in the test set.</ins>

The models created in this study performed better than those using scores calculated from the CKB, Gail, and Tyrer–Cuzick models. However, the logistic model and machine learning models did not significantly differ from one another. The number of abortions was strongly associated with breast cancer (OR = 7.13, 95% CI: 5.41–9.51). Among 12 risk factors examined, the top three important variables were abortion, family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer and prior breast surgery.</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">* Results: Among all factors considered, the best model was achieved when polygenetic risk score, lifestyle, and reproductive factors were considered jointly in the logistic regression model (AUC = 0.73; 95% CI: 0.70–0.77). The models created in this study performed better than those using scores calculated from the CKB, Gail, and Tyrer–Cuzick models. However, the logistic model and machine learning models did not significantly differ from one another.</ins>

<ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">* Conclusion: In summary, we have found genetic and lifestyle risk predictors for breast cancer with moderate discrimination, which might provide reference for breast cancer screening in southeast China. Further population-based studies are needed to validate the model for future applications in personalized breast cancer screening programs.</ins>

The study found women with 2 or more abortions had 7 times the rate of breast cancer of women who had less than 2 abortions, Most of the abortions were mifepristone medical abortions.</ins>

Meta-regression analysis of the included studies found that the association between IA and breast cancer risk attenuated with increasing percent of IA in the control group (β = −0.022, p < 0.001).</ins>

[Methods] The published case-control studies from 1989 to 2005 about correlation of abortion with breast cancer in China were analyzed using Meta-analysis method to assess the comprehensive relationship between abortion and female breast cancer. [Results] Based on the enrolled criteria, 6 articles was searched. The cumulative cases and controls were 1 440 and 1 785 respectively. Significant heterogeneity was detected among the 6 studies (Q=17.03, P0.05). OR of abortion (random effect model) was 2.04 (95% CI: 1.50~2.76). [Conclusions] This meta-analysis suggests a possible association between abortion and female breast cancer. Women with a history of abortion would have 2.04 times risk of being breast cancer than who without history of abortion.

[Purpose] To investigate the relationship between abortion and breast cancer in Chinese women.
